Wamogo Art Teacher
Every morning when I open my classroom door I think to myself that I am one of the luckiest people on the planet. I have the privilege of teaching in a well-equipped classroom and I have students who are eager to try new adventures in learning. We all learn together from those adventures, and every day that I learn something new, especially when I learn something from my students, is an especially valuable day. I enjoy these learning adventures with students in Computer Graphics, Advanced Photography, AP Drawing, AP 2D Design, and three sections of Photography. I have been teaching art for 36 years, with 27 of those years at Wamogo. It is the most fulfilling and rewarding job, and no two days are ever the same! I have so many fond memories of my Wamogo students, recent and past, and of the work we have shared together.
I live nearby with my husband Jonathan. Our son Jon works as a computer systems administrator in Austin, Texas, and our other son Carl is in the Peace Corps and will be heading to Mozambique in April to serve as a health volunteer and educator. In my free time I enjoy traveling, walking our yellow lab, Vickie, and taking infrared photographs. If you are interested, you are welcome to view my website,

My

Schedule 2017-18
art classroom expectations mrs. costa
Be kind and work hard.
I expect from you:
r e s p e c t
positive attitude
- please do not take or use materials or equipment unless specifically directed to do so.
- when we need to clean or organize classroom areas, whether they be common spaces or where you work, you need to cooperate fully so that everyone can continue to share a clean, well-maintained, organized, fully-functioning studio area.
environment for learning
- we all share in the responsibility for maintaining a place that feels friendly, safe, and stimulating, but quiet enough to think and focus.
- we only have 88 precious minutes of class per day, every other day, and a lot to do. I will not allow other distractions to take you away from our work, or to dilute our work. you are allowed to use headphones when you are working independently, or listening to a class-assigned video or tutorial. when we need to speak to each other, I will not tolerate the one-earbud or through-the-earbud format. cell phones are permitted only for class-sanctioned activities, not personal ones.
- all Photo and Computer Graphics classes: 8 GB or 16 GB flash drive
- all classes: blank notebook or sketchbook for taking notes and diagrams in class, developing ideas, writing reflections.
promptness & integrity
- assignments are due when they are due, where they are due.
- if you pass in an assignment later than the due date, except for a valid absence, do not expect to receive full credit.
- if you sign out equipment or materials, you must return them at the designated time and place.
- any materials or equipment that are ultimately not returned by the end of the school year will result in either: a. withholding of grades until goods are returned or replacement cost paid (grades 7-11) or b. withholding of diploma until goods are returned or replacement cost paid (seniors)
- you are liable for any loss of or damage to materials of equipment
- academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. cheating includes copying written work and images, major and minor assignments, homework, printed work and electronic work. work that is borrowed from the internet and other sources must be properly cited. school policy on academic dishonesty will be followed.
responsibility
- see materials for preparation above
- always ask permission before you leave the classroom, and always wait for me to give you permission to leave the classroom.
- always sign out and sign back in whenever you leave the classroom, and always indicate where you went. signing in and out applies to EVERYONE, including seniors with privileges. this is a serious safety and security issue. failure to follow this policy will result in pass restrictions.
